2010 ALL-SEC TEAM

Nick Fairley was named Defensive Player of the Year
Cam Newton was named Offensive Player of the Year
Gene Chizik was named Coach of the Year

ONLY 4 Auburn players made the ALL-SEC 1st and 2nd teams (all were 1st teamers.) Newton, Fairly, as well as offensive linemen Ryan Pugh and Lee Ziemba. Darvin Adams gets snubbed again...but to be fair WR was a loaded position this season in the SEC so it's hard to argue about him getting left off despite over 900 yards recieving. i would've liked to have seen Mike Berry get some love and Josh Bynes, and how the hell is Michael Dyer not on here? he was way more deserving than Mark Ingram or Trent Richardson...but it's all about big names with this sorta thing. way too many Bama players on here for a team that essentially finished 4th in the SEC West.

Auburn jumped Oregon to #1 in the AP after crushing South Carolina. good to see some sportswriters have finally started paying attention. regardless being 1 or 2 doesn't matter, it just matters that Auburn is finally going to get to play for a BCS National Championship for the 1st time ever. that still hasn't sunken in yet. i am going to watch that stupid selection show just to make sure it is in fact real.

also of note, TCU is leaving the Mountain West to join the Big Least. looks like Boise is still gonna be going undefeated every year. so the Mountain West is losing BYU, Utah, and TCU and they are adding Hawaii, Nevade, Boise State, and Fresno State. and why aren't they just calling themselves the WAC? all this realignment shit is stupid. the Moutain West went from up and coming conference that had a strong argument for a BCS at large bid to a less shitty version of the WAC. i'm sure Boise State is thrilled with their move. if i was the Mountain West i'd make a play for Houston, SMU, and Tulsa...if only to make their league at least competitive.

That Was Ugly, But I'll Take It

with a lot of help from CamZilla, Auburn was able to beat those suddenly dangerous Cowbell ringing fools in Starkville and escape with a lucky 17-14 win. Newton, McCalebb, and Dyer were the offensive stars again and it looks like if the Tigers are gonna make any noise in the West this year it's gonna be on the legs of those two.

and HEY, looks like we kind of have a defense...sort of. Nick Fairley is turning into the defensive line beast that we knew we'd need to replace Coleman with. how many sacks does he have this season? like 12? other than the long drive to start the 2nd half and when the special teams fucked them on that fumble, Auburn's defense was able to keep State off the scoreboard. still there are too many yards being given up to think Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and even LSU won't be lighting it up.

but in the SEC a win is a win is a win, these days...so now it's time to get ready for some real tests with Clemson and South Carolina coming up next.


a confession:

you know, at almost no point in the game did i think Auburn was ACTUALLY gonna win this thing. i always love it when the Tigers prove me wrong. in the past this sort of performance against Mississippi State would've made me sick...but i feel like the Bulldogs are for real and will end up with a 7-5 record and an upset against LSU or Arkansas. I'm def not looking forward to Dan Mullen down in Starkville these next few seasons until he gets scooped up by some bigger program.
