Go Make That Money Young Men

Georgia's star backfield of Knowshon Moreno and Matt Stafford are set to announce their desiscions about their collective futures today at a 3pm press conference. conventional wisdom says they are both going to the NFL...but you never know. crazier shit has happened.

as an Auburn fan i wish them the best of luck in the NFL and am happy as hell to see them go. those two have owned Auburn and anything that knocks the Dawgs down a peg is good by me.

*update*: it's official they're gone.
WAR EAGLE to that. although i shouldn't gloat too much because it's all the more likely that next year's UGA squad will sneak up on everyone and win the SEC with less talent at QB and a strong running game behind Claeb King and Richard Samuels...kinda like the 05 Dogs who lost to Auburn and Florida but somehow won the conference.

Auburn's Sen'Derrick Marks Ranks #5 on Rivals' List of top Underclassmen

It's never to early to start thinking about the NFL Draft...especially if you are in the state of Missouri (poor Rams and Chiefs fans). next year's draft looks like it's gonna be dominated by Juniors and Red-Shirt Sophomores, which isn't all that surprising as 2006 was one of the most talented freshman classes in the history of college football. also not that surprising it that the SEC dominates the list of quality underclassmen with 4 of the top 5 and 13 of the top 30. Georgia's dynamic backfield of Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno come in at 1 and 3. Alabama's all-everything offensive Tackle, Andre Smith, is rated as the number 2 prospect and Auburn's Sen'Derrick Marks is rated at number 5. here's a full list of Rivals.com's top 30 underclassmen.

it should be noted that there are no guarantees about any of of these kids actually declaring for the draft...but you so fucking no that Knowshon and Stafford are gonna be making that run for the NFL as soon as the clock runs out on Georgia's season this year and as an Auburn fan i couldn't be happier.

If Only I Was Allowed To Be the Falcons GM on Draft Day

so being a longtime suffering fan of the Atlanta Falcons i am used to 2 things in my life.

1. Losing (we've never had back to back winning seasons EVER much less multiple trips in a row to the playoffs) and...

2. Really underwhelming drafts, mostly populated by overrated players from the ACC who rarely pan out or end up being more trouble than they are worth.

it is frustrating to live in the South surrounded by the best college football in the country and then watch our homestate NFL franchise not draft players from the SEC. this lack of attention to the homegrown talent was never more apparent than in this year's draft when the Falcons opted to sign Michael Turner to a big contract and draft QB Matt Ryan instead of drafting SEC superstars Darren McFadden or Glenn Dorsey, which could only help spark interest from the local college fans who could care less about the Falcons on a year to year basis. i'll admit Turner was a good move, especially when paired with Norwood (Mississippi State product) but you can't tell me that almost every single Falcons' fan wouldn't have rather seen Glenn Dorsey plugging up the d line instead of ol Fucknuts McWhitey back there chucking bombs and picks. they could've sold jerseys for years if they'd waited a year and taken Matt Stafford instead...but yeah, that would've made all the people in Georgia too damn happy.

i'd like to see the management just turn Atlanta into an SEC All Star team...it'd be so awesome...or it would be a horrible failure and the team would suck, but who cares? it's just the Falcons. it can't be worse then what they've been doing for years anyways. and so if i could some how rub a magic lamp and get to conduct the 2009 Draft for the Atlanta Falcons i'd do what all real Falcons fans would like to see Atlanta do, stay in the South and take players almost exclusively from the SEC.

here's my 2009 Mock Draft for Atlanta

Rd Player School Position
1 Andre Smith, Alabama Left Tackle
2 Sen'Derrick Marks, Auburn Defensive Tackle
3 Pat White, West Virginia Wide Receiver/Quarterback
4 Cornelius Ingram, Florida Tight End
5 Brad Lester, Auburn Runningback
6 Kirston Pittman, LSU Defensive End
7 Anthony Parker, Tennessee Guard

so there you go 6 guys from the SEC and Pat White thrown in for good measure...just because i love that guy and think it would be awesome to have him returning kicks playing receiver and going behind center on some trick plays. so yeah, this is not really a list that'll blow your doors off, but it's a lot of really good SEC players who probably won't be busts like all the fucking Virginia Tech corner backs we are prone to take.

Profiles In Overrated College Football Players: James Laurinaitis

James Laurinaitis is a linebacker for the Ohio State University. he's an All-American and the son of one of the dudes from the Road Warriors. he's also the man crush of Kirk Herbstreit and Brent Musberger. one would assume listening to those two talk about Laurinaitis that he was in fact the greatest linebacker in the history of college football, not just a pretty good player who happens to play for ESPN's favorite college football team to talk about. if he played for say, Iowa, noone would care anything about him. he'd just be some 3 star recruit with a famous dad, who was kind of good at football. but ESPN chooses not to live in reality. and so for that he tops my list of the MOST OVERRATED players in college football.

if anyone actually watched him play in the BCS title game last year they would have gotten an eyeful of him missing tackles, playing out of position, and generally looking lost when faced with the task of tackling players with NFL speed. but don't take my word for it, here's an Ohio State fan's thoughts on the issue. i have no real hatred for the kid, he's a good solid player, but as are most things that come out of Herbibot's mouth...the idea that this kid is the best linebacker in college football is just laughable.

get used to listening to his name though, because you'll be hearing a lot of it this week as ESPN gears up for the big USC vs. Ohio State matchup. aka THE GAME OF THE CENTURY OF THE YEAR. and while you are enjoying the ass beating that the Trojans put on Ohio State that hopefully boots them out of the top 10 and out of any shot at another BCS Title Game this Saturday, go ahead and ask yourself a question...could that fucking guy start for USC? no. could he start for most any SEC team? not likely. so why is he thought of as the top linebacker prospect in the country? only the Herbibot knows for sure. just hope and pray your favorite NFL team doesn't fall for this pile of hype, remember Chad Greenway the much hyped Iowa linebacker prospect that the Vikings took in the 2nd round? yeah me neither.

James Laurinaitis- good college football player? maybe. future 1st round draft pick? not if there is any justice in the world. as good as AJ Hawk? fuck no. likely to be shown up by all the insanely awesome USC linebackers on Saturday while he tries to chase around Joe McKnight and CJ Gable as they squirt past him for long gains and likely touchdowns? guaranteed.
