Is there a more self important asshole in all of sports than LeBron James? The kid who actually calls himself "King". Well what seems like a 5 year ordeal of where LeBron will play in the future FINALLY ended with the meanest fuck you to a former fanbase that anyone who didn't secretly move their football team to another city in the middle of the night has ever pulled off. When this annoying story finally came to an end and "South Beach" came out of his mouth I really wanted to shoot my tv. I mean superstars have abandoned their teams before (Shaq being the most obvious example when related to LeBron) but never has it been such a completely sickening and painful spectacle. I mean Cleveland is a shitty city, there's no doubt about it...BUT GODDAMN! You really couldn't have just had a press conference like a normal player? It's not the leaving a desperate city who loved you that makes me hate you, it is the fucking ridiculous way you did it. What kind of an ego maniacal monster have we created? Seriously I hope the Heat NEVER win a ring and LeBron goes down as a guy with more in common with Karl Malone than MJ. Actually fuck everyone who compares James to Jordan ever again. Would Mike have ever left the Bulls to go play with Charles Barkley and John Stockton on a team together? Fuck no!
Also ESPN has truly outdone themselves this time. I like to think they could never top this bullshit...and yet I fucking know they can. Oh well, back to Favrewatch.
Never has there been a more perfect example of why college sports beat pro sports every fucking day of the week more than this.
a one hour special dedicated to Lebron announcing what team he's going to sign with? seriously is he trying to be the most hated man in sports? if the team he picks isn't Cleveland then he will have been successful in making this so.
I think LeBron should go play in Greece, there he might have a chance to ever win a title cuz it sure as shit isn't happpening in the NBA.
Do I care who James plays for next season? Not really. I mean it's not like he's gonna come play for the fucking Hawks. Do to my natural hate for all New York teams i'd prefer it not be the Knicks. The thought of LeBron going to Chicago in his attempt to be like Mike kind of amuses me because I get the feeling Jordan (in all his petty jealousy) wouldn't be too thrilled with LeBron taking his "chosen one" act to the Bulls. All I can really say is that the city of Cleveland is now officially on Suicide Watch.
Seriously, you got outscored over 25 points a game IN THE 2ND ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS!
It's time for some changes on this team because the 2nd round is as far as this collection of players will ever make it. So I say Atlanta should just let Joe Johnson go his shit talking way (esp considering Crawford outplayed him the entire playoffs) and the Hawks add some legit players to the bench. Josh Smith and Horford and Crawford are the only 3 players i'd say are untouchable...and the rest of the roster needs a serious shake up.
But the sad truth is that Atlanta (which in all honesty SHOULD be a huge NBA town with the social and racial makeup of the city) just isn't a place players give a shit about playing. Oh well. This might be the end of the line for this short lived run of respectability for the Hawks.
don't let the lack of browness fool you. he's a foreigner. Arizona police will be arresting Steve Nash and shipping his ass back to Canada for stealing American jobs with the quickness.
(all rants should be directed to my "who gives a fuck what you think?" box. even my republican friends think that bill is racist as shit.)
the way King James and Nike tried to bury this shit you'd have thought the kid ran up his back, dunked it, and then smacked Lebron in the face with his crotch.
honestly if this bullshit had just gone up on the internet in the first place without Lebron gettin' all pissy about it then noone would have even cared. it's not like the video looks like this...
The Hawks and Golden State Warriors are set to trade for Jamal Crawford in exchange for Acie Law and Speedy Claxton. Crawford would more than likely mean the end of any possible deal to bring Mike Bibby back to Atlanta...or that's my guess. it also ends Acie Law's chances of becoming the future point guard for Atlanta.
Crawford is a nice piece player (averaged 19.7 ppg and 4.4 assists) but he isn't a true point guard. it does give the Hawks another scorer to go with Joe Johnson, but i don't see this as a move that greatly improves Atlanta's chances...also Crawford was once a Knick...which makes him tainted in my eyes for all time. i'm still hoping for them to package either their draft pick and another player (say Marvin Williams) and move up in the first round...or what i really would like to see is for them to deal Josh Smith for some bench help and make a play for a big name free agent.
Hey Hawks. if you wanna turn yourself from an also ran into a team on the rise then trade Josh Smith for a sharpshooter and sign Hedo Turkoglu. he's a big man who can play powerforward and handle the ball like a pointguard. he's got an outside shot and most importantly he's a star on the rise. chances he ends up in Atlanta are probably next to none, but hey...i can dream.
speaking of dreaming, here are my top 5 other free agents that i'd like to see Atlanta make a run at this offseason.
1. Carlos Boozer- again the Hawks would need to trade Josh Smith and then replace him with an ACTUAL power forward who can give them 3 much needed things: rebounds, leadership, and star power. most likely Boozer is gonna join a team like The Cavs, Lakers, or The Heat (he lives in Miami).
2. Shawn Marion- an excellent shooter and defender that fills a position where the Hawks don't have a true NBA starter (small forward). he'd give Atlanta a guy to go along with Joe Johnson where Joe was no longer forced to be Atlanta's go-to option.
3. Andre Miller- with Bibby most likely leaving, Atlanta needs a point guard and Miller is the best one available in the 09 free agent class.
4. Ron Artest- sure he's crazy as fuck, but when he's on the court he's one of the best defenders in the game. plus he's got playoff experience and he's got star potential. this one is a bit iffy only because he's the kind of player that could come in and kill the roster if things went badly.
5. Lamar Odum- granted the guy is known to be a bit lazy at times, but if he came to Atlanta he'd instantly be the biggest star on the team and in the East a player with his size and skillset could completely dominate.
also Atlanta needs to resign Zaza....like BIGTIME.
5 other unrestricted free agents i wouldn't mind seeing Atlanta make moves on.
Chris "Birdman" Anderson Rasheed Wallace Trevor Ariza Mehmet Okur Allen Iverson
I can't remember what the rules are for Haiku anymore...here's my attempt at a few.

I do actually feel a little bad for Lebron. He's a totally amazing and likeable player even if he gets too many bullshit calls and his commercials suck. If I could ever allow myself to be a frontrunner then i'd pick him to root for. I would've rather seen Nuggets vs Cavs than the Lakers in the finals but I realized while watching this series how truly lousy the Cavs would be without Lebron. They don't have a single guy on that team other than James that id want the Hawks to pick up. Its an amazing feat and shows just how awesome Lebron is that those sorry ass turds could even have the league's best record. And as much as I hate listening to ESPN and the rest of the universe plug the Lebron to New York thing...after this series it seems pretty likely, I just hope James gives Atlanta a quick look before bolting for the NYC...(yeah its not happening, but he'd be a lot more likely to win with Joe Johnson, Horford, and Zaza than with that collection of scrubs in Cleveland or New York).
Party foul for James for not shaking Dwight's hand after the game. When you get your ass handed to you like that you've got to man up and shake some hands. Oh well.
The Nuggets will beat the Lakers in a 7 game thriller.
The Cavs over the Nuggets in 6. Lebron and Melo finally get to be the next Magic and Bird...minus the white dude part. David Stern is happy. So is Shaq. Kobe cries himself to sleep on mountains of gold.
1st off a big hand to the 2008/2009 Atlanta Hawks for completely surprising me and becoming a totally respectable NBA team. They improved by 10 games, nabbed the 4th spot in the East, and then did something no Atlanta team has done in a while, win a playoff series and advance to the 2nd round. So Yay! Way to go Hawks.
But now for the reality check: Atlanta is pretty much at the peak for this current roster...and they're not guaranteed to keep their spot next season. The Bulls are coming up. The Heat will be better as Beasley gets better. The Celtics are old, but they will still be better than the Hawks next season. Obviously Orlando and Cleveland are going to be better. And then there's no doubt in my mind the Sixers could jump the Hawks as well as some young improving team like the Bobcats. Last season was crucial for the future of this franchise...but this one might make or break them.
First things first, the Hawks need to fire Mike Woodson. This team improved in spite of him, not because. Atlanta has no offense, they don't play solid defense on a consistent basis, Woodson doesn't make adjustments, and his players don't like him. Thanks for the memories but it's time for you to pack your bags and go. Atlanta is in the Eastern conference, they need a defensive minded headcoach. That's what the Cavs and Celtics are. The Magic play solid enough defense because of Dwight Howard. The Pistons were able to dominate in the East for years because of their D. If Atlanta ever wants to make it to the promised land they've got to become a team that shuts people down. Mike Woodson ain't the guy for that.
Secondly Atlanta needs to look at Josh Smith and realize that he's a talented young player with some upside who can be a fan favorite and a star and the best asset they've got and then trade his ass away for someone who can either shoot the lights out or rebound and play defense. I'd love for the Hawks to send him to Denver in exchange for Birdman and some cap space. Or for a guy who can come off the bench and light it up. J Smooth just isn't the player the Hawks need him to be. He's immature and selfish and not a leader and he whines too much and shoots to many fucking 3s and doesn't understand how to play power forward. And his teammates don't really like him. I really wish Josh Childress had stayed last season and Smith had left town. The Hawks need to get rid of him now while he's still got a lot of value on the market.
Third thing is that Atlanta needs a real point guard. Bibby was solid this year and I like the guy, but he's old and he's still a shoot first PG...and that's not what this team needs. We need a leader, a passer, and a lockdown defender at the point. I don't care who you get, if it's through the draft or free agency, but this has been the team's biggest need for years.
And finally the Hawks need to add another player who can help Joe Johnson out...or better yet a guy who can lead this team and Joe Johnson can help him out. It became painfully obvious in these playoffs that Joe just isn't a superstar who can lead his team far. He's a great #2 but he's just not a #1 franchise guy. Either Atlanta needs to add another solid #2 player that turns the Hawks into a two man team or they just need to go for broke and pay the best superstar available to come to town and make him the franchise. Either way Joe can.'t do it alone. Johnson, Williams, Horford, and Zaza are all nice pieces to build around but the Hawks are gonna need a major facelift if they want to make it to the next level.
don't take it personal guys. it's just strictly business.
Okay, enough Hawks talk for months. Seriously I've written more about this team over the last month than I have the previous 3 years. Back to football...
the Atlanta Hawks and i are both currently scorched. me by the power of the almighty god Sun Ra after spending a weekend at the lake. and the Hawks by the almighty god of basketball, Lebron. i'm not even gonna bother checking out game 4. i'll be watching Gossip Girl and then going to see Star Trek instead.
top 3 things i'd like to see the Hawks do to improve the team for next year.
1. FIRE MIKE WOODSON!!!
2. trade Josh Smith for a shooter who can help out Joe Johnson.
3. sign a star or a leader that can take this team to the next level. right now they are maxing out at their potential.
sticking with the theme of 80s Hawks Youtube clips, i bring you the single greatest moment in Atlanta Hawks history. sadly it was not in an actual game, it was instead the 1986 Slam Dunk Competition that featured Spud Webb going at it against the reigning dunk champion Dominique Wilkins. back then the Champ got to sit out the early rounds, so Nique doesn't show up until the end of this clip. i remember sitting at home watching this and being blown away at how awesome Spud Webb was. their duel in the finals was to me the single greatest moment in All Star Dunk Contest history...yeah even better than Wilkins vs. Jordan. to think that a guy who is shorted than me could jump that high still amazes me. enjoy the short shorts and the dunks minus capes.
i could be wrong about this but with Wilkins, Webb, and Josh Smith all owning Slam Dunk trophies...the Atlanta Hawks might be the NBA's all time dunk champions.
and just for the hell of it...Spud Webb standing 5'7" tall dunks the ball in a game over 7'7" Manute Bol.
maybe my original prediction of a 5 game series was a little too optimistic for the Hawks. granted they lost every single game against the Heat in blowout fashion and when this series gets back to Atlanta you'd hope the Hawks bother showing up...but DAMN!!! watching Lebron dominate just made me glad he didn't stay with football and wasn't terrorizing NFL QB's right now as the most athletic defensive end in history or burning linebackers for 70 yard tds as the greatest tight end in league history. i mean can you imagine?
seriously, James has to be the best all around athlete i've seen since Bo Jackson.
speaking of basketball players who could've been awesome football players...check out this video of Allen Iverson as a highschool QB/Punt Returner/Defensive Back/Runningback. he looks Vick-like.
it's all on you Zaza. we need the Zaza Revolution to wage a lethal guerrilla campaign against David Stern's band of whistle happy refs and THE CHOSEN ONE if the city of Atlanta has any hope at all. i believe in you. well not really, but i'm gonna root anyways.
tonight the Hawks undertake the impossible task of trying to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers (or the Lebrons as they are better known) in the 2nd round of the NBA playoffs. ESPN writer John Hollinger has laid out of 5 point plan for the Hawks to defeat the Cavs...unless Lebron getting the Swine Flu is among them then i don't really see that playing out. and even then i'd have my doubts... remember what you guys did against the Celtics last year? yeah, well do that again...if you take Cleveland to 7 games then you have earned the right to tell the rest of the NBA to suck it.
